–International Aerobatic Club and US Nationals 2018 Updates:

Citing health concerns, Mike Heuer has stepped down as the president of the IAC. Robert Armstrong is the new IAC President.

There are still some planning concerns with Oshkosh as the venue for the 2018 US Nationals. Along with support from Mike Phyler, Curt Richmond and Tom Rhodes intend to communicate to the IAC leadership that IAC24 is ready and willing to return the US National Championships to Sherman, TX.

–The Texas Championship Series:

Curt Richmond announced a format for a new regional series in the state of Texas. Doug Jenkins from San Antonio has developed a wonderful idea for Texas Aerobatic Pilots called the Texas Championship Series. The series will be a fun addition to help foster positive and spirited competition in our region. Information about the series was sent out on the AKRO Exploder. In order to qualify, a pilot must fly in all of the multi-category contests that are held in Texas in 2018. The best pilot in each category will be crowned following the Hammerfest competition in October. As a reminder, these dates are:

The Early Bird – 27-28 April in Edna, TX (26R)
The Lone Star Aerobatic Championships – 22-24 June in Sherman-Denison, TX (KGYI) The Hill Country Hammerfest – 12-13 October in Llano, TX (KAQO)

Chapter 24 is very grateful to Doug, who is a Chapter 24 member, for the thought and effort put into this idea!

–Super D Tango Updates:

Curt Richmond advised that the Super D Tango has come pretty close to having to be cancelled due to lack of aircraft. However, a current verbal arrangement with a flight school in Addison and Debby Rihn-Harvey’s school in Houston has made it possible to continue moving forward with contest planning. Please stay tuned to updates on the IAC24 website in the event that aircraft availability would change.

The contest will be held on July 14, at Akroville, home to Tony and Julia Wood.

Feel free to come on the contest day, or come early/stay late and camp at Akroville and enjoy camaraderie and fellowship with other IAC members and aerobatic enthusiasts.

–US Unlimited Team Camp in Sherman, TX: March 31/April 1

Mike Gallaway discussed the opportunity for our membership to come out and watch the US Unlimited Team practice this coming weekend in Sherman, TX. Team coach Coco will be in from France critiquing and working with Mike, Rob Holland, and possibly others who are beginning early preparations for WAC 2019 to be held in France. Mike stated that the team members would love to have your support! Come on out, watch, learn and have a cold beer and enjoy each others company. If you intend to go, please let someone from the LSAC leadership know and we will spread the word.

–2018 Chapter 24 Social Calendar:

Curt Richmond opened the floor for ideas to build up a nice 2018 social calender. Two ideas were discussed and the membership in attendance agreed that both are worth pursuing. The first is putting together a means of group transportation, maybe a small bas or van, to attend the Waco 2018 Airshow at the Waco TSTC Airport. This idea was presented by Tom Rhodes. Chapter 24 member Mike Gallaway will be narrating the airshow, and the Blue Angels will be in attendance this year. The dates for the airshow are April 7-8, 2018. Please stay tuned to the LSAC Facebook and website as an announcement will obviously be made fairly soon as to the logistics of this event.

-In addition, Erick and Jennifer McDaniel have volunteered their home at Hillcrest Airpark for a Chapter 24 pool party/fly-in. The tentitive date for this event is May 12, so mark in on your calenders and keep that day free. The Hillcrest Airpark has a 2,000×30 runway. Identifier is 7TX4. Please advise Erick McDaniel for a briefing if you intend to fly in.
